CARLEIGH NEWTON

OWNER

Hi there!

My name is Carleigh Newton and my husband Chris and I are the owners of Gracie's Kennels.

After graduating from UBC with my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, I found myself at a crossroads. Do I pursue a career in psychology or do I find something that I am truly passionate about? My decision led me to hike the Pacific Crest Trail: a 4,270km scenic trail spanning from the Mexico-US border in southern California to Manning Park, British Columbia.

After completing this soul-searching trek, my husband and I came upon the opportunity to purchase Wagg's Boarding & Grooming, and we knew that it was our calling. We packed up our life in Penticton and moved our son and two dogs to the Kootenay's — a place that had always been our dream.

I have always had a strong bond and love for animals, especially dogs. I have experience with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. I am certified in Walks 'N' Wags Pet First Aid and continuing my studies in both dog behaviour and care. I hope you find comfort in knowing that your pet will be safe, loved, and treated like our very own here at Gracie’s.

Thank you for trusting me with your family member.

GRACIE

HEAD OF SECURITY

Meet Gracie, the girl behind the name!

We adopted Gracie from Paws It Forward Dog Rescue in Kelowna just over 3 years ago. She was brought in from Manitoba where she was living amongst feral dogs as well as taking care of 18 puppies, some which were hers and some not. After all her puppies got adopted, she was left looking for a home for quite some time and that is when we found her. It was love at first sight and we knew she was meant to be a part of our family.

When we first brought her home, it was clear she had been through some traumatic experiences. She was scared of everything- fast movements, loud noises, ceiling fans, sticks, water, most men, and almost all dogs. Through reassurance that she was safe and loved as well as extensive reactive dog training, Gracie relaxed and started enjoying her days. She now loves hiking, cuddling, stealing snacks, and her family more than anything. We can't imagine our lives without her and she was the inspiration for Gracie's Kennels!

Our goal is to create an environment that not only Gracie would love, but one that we would feel confident to leave our own dogs in.

REVY

DOG DAYCARE ENTHUSIAST

Meet Revy!

Revy was also adopted from Paws it Forward but unlike Gracie, he was just a couple months old. He is definitely a gentle giant and can normally be found roaming the yard or having a blast in our daycare program! Revy and our son Indie have been called the 'Bash Brothers' because if one is causing trouble, the other is normally not far behind.
